Nationwide Children’s Hospital
Founded in 1892 as a 12-bed charity hospital, over the last year Nationwide Children's Hospital
has served kids from across Ohio, all 50 states, and 21 foreign countries, recording
over 700,000 patient visits. Our mission is best described by the acronym "CARES":
Nationwide Children's Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest level of Care, Advocacy, Research,
Education, and Service to patients and families in central Ohio and beyond, without
regard for their ability to pay. To that end, we provide more than $50 million in
uncompensated care every year.
Nationwide Children's Hospital's commitment to excellence has won it national recognition,
including being named to the US News and World Report "America's Best Hospitals"
list. In January 2007, Child magazine determined Childrens was the sixth best pediatric
hospital in the country and number one in emergency care. The hospital's pediatricians
are members of the faculty of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and
Public Health. In 2006, Nationwide Children's Hospital trained hundreds of residents and fellows in
its nationally recognized graduate medical education program, including rotating
residents from 10 other institutions. Additionally, 1,700+ students receive training
at Nationwide Children's annually.
The Nationwide Childrens Hospital campus includes:
More than 2.2 million square feet under roof covering six city blocks; expansion
plans currently under way will add an additional one million square feet
383 inpatient beds and more than 800 clinicians representing every area of pediatric

The nations largest neonatology network, with 137 beds, including neonatal services
at other Columbus area hospitals
The Columbus Childrens Research Institute, one of the countrys premier pediatric
resarch programs, ranking in the top 10 freestanding childrens hospitals for National
Institutes of Health funding

In addition to our main campus, Childrens operates a total of 17 community-based
Close to Homesm Centers located throughout central Ohio-including eight Physician
Care Centers, three Urgent Cares, and eight locations that provide behavioral health
counseling-enabling families to receive services in the communities in which they
live
As we grow, positioning Nationwide Childrens Hospital to be a national leader in pediatric healthcare
in the 21st century, we remain passionately dedicated to our core purpose -providing
the absolute best healthcare to every child.
